Vaski has always been an extremely versatile producer, so I’m not going to knock the guy for delving into some of the genres and elements of EDM I tend shy away from. The big picture here is that the Minnesota producer has once again assembled an extremely eclectic and destructive album. Throughout The Explorer EP, Vaski tries his hands at electro, progressive house, and glitch-hop, while also still getting in plenty of dubstep power.
For those of you who have followed Vaski from his years with Rottun, seeking those most mechanical of melodies, “Mars” sticks to a much more classic Vaski sound, while “Can’t Bring Me Down” is where you’ll find dinosaurs stomping around. “Game of Cards” diverts initially stylistically, but comes back full circle to a bass-walloping ending. “The Nile” will take you real deep, seemingly underwater, into glitch-hop composition. The rest is all you. 12th Planet and SMOG Records on the release for this one. Enjoy.
