Anything ill.Gates touches or is involved with bursts into flames and comes out straight fire. The San Francisco producer and DJ’s album The ill.Methodology was brimming (and I mean brimming with a massive 18 tracks) with an incredible assortment of bass influences and sounds, taking on everything from hip-hop, to dubstep, and in between. He then followed up the release with a remix album, the first in this series, which you can stream and download FREE HERE.
I guess that wasn’t enough though, not that I’m complaining, at all. ill.Gates is hitting us with more bass freshness via The ill.Methodology Remixed v2 with some extra remixes from the album. There’s a couple familiar names on the release, but also a good deal of producers who are at least rather unknown to me, which is certainly refreshing, allowing us to hear noise from new perspectives and giving the limelight to a few brilliant artists who might be missing some of the attention they deserve. Once again a wide array of bass genres are covered, all the way from laid-back hip-hop to Snareophobe‘s destructive drumstep remix. There’s a lot of really great ideas contained in the record, such as Circuit Bent‘s remix, which features an interesting duality, drawing samples from two ill.Gates tracks, “Otoro” and “Metanoia”, and melding them into additional original production.
