This weekend we’re kicking off from Philadelphia to head out to beautiful Chilicothe, Illinois for Summer Camp Music Festival 2014. While it’s sure to be an incredible experience, jammed full of plenty of great music, we can’t help but admit a little bit of remorse for all the great music we’ll be missing here in the City of Brotherly Love this weekend. So if you’re unable to join us at Summer Camp, or just otherwise staying in the area, be sure to check out the incredible schedule of shows Philadelphia has to offer you from Thursday, March 22nd through Sunday, the 25th, below.
Kicking off the weekend is Pigeons Playing Ping Pong. This incredible four piece band has been bringing their high energy, funk-infused sets to Philadelphia for quite some time now. Hailing from Baltimore, the group looks to notch another incredible performance down here in the city this Thursday. After opening for Conspirator at Union Transfer this past fall, Pigeons will take the stage at North Star Bar in the headlining spot this weekend. In addition, you can catch the band performing at the inaugural year of Luna Lights Music & Arts Festival!

For folk fans, Friday night is the night to hit the town. Two up and coming bands, The Weeks and The Apache Relay have teamed up for a tour to bring mellow, twangy tunes to your eardrums all night long. Once again North Star Bar will be hosting this incredible event.
This might be a little out of range for our regular readers, but I’m sure at least a few of you will feel me on this. One of my biggest woes of leaving the city this weekend will certainly be missing this incredible two-night show. Atlanta based rock band Manchester Orchestra will be joined by Kevin Devine for two consecutive nights at The TLA, delivering an overdose of ripping and tearing. Fresh off their new album release, Machester Orchestra is sure to deliver plenty of classics as well as a good amount of material from the new record. Even if you can’t catch both, this is one show you definitely want to catch at least one night of.

Luckily we’ll have the pleasure of catching most of these artists giving up sets at Summer Camp this weekend. But for all staying here in Philadelphia, you are in for a serious treat. Jam on the River returns this year to the River Stage at Great Plaza, and the lineup is absolutely incredible. Boasting a lineup that covers the entire spectrum of jam to jamtronica, the full day event offers an incredible supply of overwhelmingly awesome music. From eclectic Philadelphia based acts Lotus, Conspirator and Grimace Federation, to the always funky GRiZ, and the serenity-bringing vibes of Papadosio, Jam on the River looks to be the event of the weekend.
