by Kyle Taylor It’s officially the week of F.A.R.M. Fest 2014, and everything’s about to get a makeover up at Rickey Farm. With that in mind, I thought this was a good chance to hit you guys with an extra kick of fresh music from some of the many producers bringing their beats to the festival. We’ve covered just a handful of the talent that will be grooving at the festival this year. So this week we’ll start things off with one of the larger acts, Govinda. I decided to use the Austin, Texas producer and violinist this week simply because I haven’t spotlighted him yet, and he’s truly deserving of a highlight. With a beautiful hand at his instrument, and a glitchy dark sound riddled with world and glitch-hop inspirations, Govinda creates a masterful live performance that’s both refreshing and mesmerizing. Shane O Madden, aka Govinda, has been chopping away at the world of electronic music for over a decade. The incorporation of his violin playing and frequent use of live dancers brings an energetic and psychedelic wave of creativity to the stage. The production focuses on organic, rhythmic beats, surrounded in a layer of ambient sound and dreamy vocal samples.

Now here at Funkadelphia, we’re actually trying to give F.A.R.M. Fest a little dose of our own flavor this year, via the Funky Town Stage. Joining us will be a massive list of producers from all over the area, whether it be Philadelphia, New York, or elsewhere. One of them being New York City producer Ageless, who delivers a remarkable insight to the glitch-hop and electro soul sound. Ageless pulls together his tracks from a far-reaching web of inspirations, including hip-hop, bass music, glitch, funk, jazz, and plenty more. With two albums- Broken Inventions and Off Course, But on Point– on Philos Records, as well as a collaborative EP with labelmate SwAy (under the project name SwAygeless), the New York city funk hustler has racked up a hefty arsenal of funk-flinging tracks. Combined with a hefty amount of unreleased material, Ageless’ set at F.A.R.M. Fest this year promises to be one to knock your socks off. He’ll be laying down the beats late night Saturday at the Funky Town stage.

Now even with all the incredible local talent we’re bringing down to Funky Town, we still had to reach far and wide to gather a few very special guests to bring the funk to F.A.R.M. Fest. Just one of the many awesome producers hitting the stage this weekend is Filibusta, who is making the journey to us all the way from Illinois, a state where the funk is strong. Having already brought his talents to the dance tent at Summer Camp, and the main stage at Infrasound this year, Troy Probst, aka Filibusta, has been making some serious noise lately. Utilizing live instrumentation through keyboard playing, and delivering his own hip-hop vocals, Filibusta’s live performances are crackling with electricity. He’ll be joining Ageless with us Saturday night, late night after the main stage shuts down. So get those dancing feet ready my fellow Funkadelphians!
