I don’t even know where to start with this one. There’s too many amazing qualities surrounding this release. Admittedly, I’m not too aware of many other bass producers out of Salt Lake City, but Grimblee is certainly bringing the city good representation. With a funky bass sound that lends itself to a plethora of inspirations from across the bass music world. Yet, Grimblee maintains a consistently original approach, turning out sound production that finds original footing. More notable though, are his glitched out drum patterns, which are what seem to bring each of his tracks their almost bouncy quality.
Free Noize Vol. 1 is the first in a new series of free EPs from Grimblee. The release features a few final versions of tracks previously previewed on his soundcloud but never released, as well as a few unheard tracks. “Marching Clones” starts off the EP with an aggressive bass attack, dripping with dirty noise. “Copy Cat” then turns out a more, shall me say “squeaky”, approach. From there the rest of the EP seems to find footing on those two themes, alternating between serious filth, and some more bouncy funk. “The Cave Master” finds a more laid-back rhythm, yet Grimblee’s signature sound still manages to prevail. The Cookie Monsta and Funtcase remix from Grimblee on this EP also deserves mention; so here’s that.
