Today we have a new album that truly encapsulates the funk sound. From Boston based label Transcendent Tunes comes the new full-length album from Dixon Stovall. The record, Da Capo, rolls up a smooth modern electronica sound under a mellow glaze of guitar. The two components, the production and instrumental aspects, meld together to create a unique blend of funky, spacey bass music, once again providing footing a label constantly working at breaking boundaries.
Da Capo carries through a variety of influences, all ultimately coming back to it’s funk base. Tracks such as “Jellybongo” settle more on applying a modern electronic sound, while others, such as “Diamonds from Rubble”, call more heavily upon Latin and world music influences. The album works its way through atmospheric waves and crunchy walls of bass, never ceasing to provide cover via riveting guitar lines.
