After years of collaboration, Paul Basic and Michal Menert– both currently members of Pretty Lights Music– have unveiled their collaborative project, Half Color in full light. Existing behind the curtain for nearly six years now, the project has shown its face through select show performances and some unreleased (at least officially) original material.
The debut release from the super-duo, the Dream Season EP, demonstrates an inexorable musical flexibility from both of these already well-versed producers. Blending together both artists styles, Half Color also finds plenty of ground to introduce original ideas. The EP itself carries itself through everything from funked-out hip-hop beats, to soulful jazzy grooves. Not electro soul, nor glitch-hop, future funk, or even hip-hop really apply here, as each song in itself manages to contort fragments of these styles into versatile new perspectives of sound.
