If you go to at least one or two music festivals each summer, it’s very likely that you have seen – or at least had the chance to see – Michal Menert. The former Pretty Lights Music artist has been staying busy on the summer festival circuit for years, but each year seems to have a new trick up his sleeve in terms of performing. Across a relatively short timespan, the Denver-based producer has gone from solo performances, to the Michal Menert Trio, to the even more instrumentally inclusive Michal Menert Big Band. Outside of touring and festivals, the Polish producer also launched his own record label, Super Best Records, in 2013 and now brings the label’s newest release: Space Jazz.
The Space Jazz LP not only highlights Menert’s talent for production and composition, but also showcases a wide variety of guest artists to bring a unique experience to the listener. Each track flows freely with the classic hip hop and electro-soul vibe Menert is known for; but, at the same time, each song has its own distinctive flavor added by the collaborative artists. The album features a wide array of artists from all over the music spectrum, including hip hop vocalists JuBee and R.A. the Rugged Man; fellow Pretty Lights Music artists SuperVision and Paul Basic; Manic Focus; and of course some live saxophone from Big Gigantic’s Dom Lalli.
With the countless hours and numerous artists involved in making Space Jazz, one might think after listening to the record that Menert has hit his peak as an artist. On the contrary, the album marks a new beginning for the producer. Following the biggest release of his career is also one of his largest shows to date: the Michal Menert Big Band Live at Red Rocks Amphitheater on Saturday, March 21st! For those attending, expect to be blown away by the unprecedented fusion of electronic production, as well as an eighteen-piece live band. If you are not one of those lucky enough to make it to Red Rocks, you can find solace in the fact that Space Jazz is available at the “Name Your Price” option thanks to Super Best Records and Michal Menert himself.
