For all the constant bad-mouthing dubstep seems to catch, the genre has time and time again proven it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. With new waves of producers constantly emerging and breathing new life into the genre through technically exuberant sound design and stagnant, decisive percussion, things are staying plenty lively in the bass community. With roots laid by many of the producers who initially forged the path of the genre, new branches now extend to uphold those artists beginning to make their climb.
A sure standout in the ranks is Dallas producer MUST DIE!. Immediately causing whispers all throughout the bass music community with his first few releases, it wasn’t long before MUST DIE! had furthered his traction with releases on OWSLA Records and Never Say Die Records. Now returning to Never Say Die with his latest brainchild, the Neo Tokyo EP, the quickly rising bass superstar has plenty of new, contorted bass flows and rhythms to offer listeners. The release shuffles the producer’s preexisting sound design library into new arrays of earth-shattering, off-rhythm beats, taking the word “heavy” to new heights, and truly defining the meaning of “twisted”.
