This is not an April Fool’s joke. That would just be way too mean. Bass fans of any which demographic can officially rejoice in anticipation of the all but comedic Infrasound Festival 2016 lineup. Seriously, where to even begin with this one?
If you are truly looking for a festival with a different lineup this summer, a place where you can hear artists and music that otherwise barely ever grace the sound systems of the United States, then Highbridge, Wisconsin should be your destination from June 2nd-6th. The United Kingdom is seeing heavy representation- not an unfamiliar trend at Infrasound, but something we altogether see much too infrequently in North America. NOISIA, Joker, Hatcha and an Inspected Records Showcase featuring Asa, Sorrow, and Skope– now that is just brushing the tip of the iceberg.
The lineup goes well beyond the deep bass ambiance of the aforementioned, though. Infrasound has always been a deliberate contributor in exercising a multi-faceted arsenal of progressive electronic genres. Instigating acts like EOTO, Ott & The All-Seeing I, The Russ Liquid Test, Mr. Bill, and Ganja White Night, among others, the 2016 festival is doing more than its fair share to showcase live electronic production performances with plenty of improvisational, instrumental impact.
Do you like glitch hop? How about psy-dub or psy-trance? Is deep dub your disease? What about some fresh future bass? With such a dense and commendable lineup, it is simply impossible to name all those worth mentioning. One thing is for sure, though: no matter your forte, Infrasound has you covered. Still, we simply can not lapse by other notable stand-outs Raja Ram– performing a Shpongle DJ set- as well as The Orb; An-Ten-Nae and his collaborative project Dimond Saints; 1200 Micrograms; Tennyson; and the first appearance of the Infrasound All-Stars, featuring Michael Travis & Jason Hann (both of EOTO), Russ Liquid, and Benjamin Bamby (of Ganja White Night). Perhaps even more intelligible is the fact that patrons can undoubtedly expect to hear not just some of their favorite artists, but also be put on to plenty of new artists pushing the electronic envelope.
Infrasound has one true and concise focus, the music. Creating the best possible audio experience for its patrons is chiefly and undoubtedly the main concern of the annual festival, this year celebrating its 5th anniversary. For the second year in a row, Infrasound will boast Funktion One sound systems on each one of its stages. Yet, this is not to say other artistic aspects are lacking. Further artistic collaboration will exist across the visual spectrum over the course of the weekend through live visuals from acclaimed artist Johnathan Singer, as well as live painting from Alex Grey, Allyson Grey, and Aaron Brooks.
