Let your mind drift off into the strange audio wilderness. Whether in need of some new beats to fill free time, to help escape the monotony of a long drive, or simply to knock down speakers in the club, the solution to your woes is no doubt the new Illusion EP from Nashville producer Ives. Finding its nesting place on the authoritative west coast bass label Street Ritual, this new EP, and Ives himself, are showing exactly why they deserve the recognition. A deep, refined, hip hop-inspired sound carries the release from start to finish. In fact, it is almost hard to believe, while listening to the Illusion EP, that these tunes are coming from the deep south, rather than direct from the west coast. White boy swagger is in full effect here through glitch-production, blips of synthesizers, and rattling percussion.
Just in case seven new original productions was not enough, Ives has also loaded up his new EP with three remixes, including one from Philadelphia local producer Mindset. So do not think, even for a second, that bypassing this impeccable compilation of tunes is any bit of the right move.
