Last Thursday we welcomed Vibe Street into the City of Brotherly Love for his first ever visit. He was accompanied by local artists Face Plant, and a special Brightside set in which he was joined by hip-hop artist FireJay.
We started out the evening at Kung Fu Necktie with Face Plant, who busted out his guitar to get us going with some extra smooth and funky grooves. The venue immediately lit up as a ball of creative energy. Owlchemist painted the ceiling with mesmerizing visuals all night, while live painters took to the stage on either side of Face Plant, each sculpting their own masterpiece.
Next up was Vibe Street, bringing his signature “grass-hop” sound. Coming off his latest She Makes Me Feel EP, Ben Davis (aka Vibe Street) had plenty of new material to keep the audience going. Even after churning out multiple sets at this year’s F.A.R.M. Music & Arts Festival, Vibe Street was able to create a totally original and refreshing performance.
Finally Brightside took to the stage joined by fellow artist and brother, FireJay. It was truly a night of firsts with not only Vibe Street making his first appearance in Philadelphia, but also marking FireJay’s first ever collaborative performance with Brightside- and his first ever performance, in general, for that matter. The duo quickly sank into a smooth flow, each complimenting one another perfectly. The harmony of intelligent production melding with intelligent hip-hop vocals was revitalizing.
Thanks to Ray Ermel Photography we have not just a beautiful collection of photos from the evening, but also several video clips. So if you were lucky enough to join us, sink into some recent nostalgia; and if you were unfortunate enough to miss out, sink your teeth in, and join us next time!
