At times I have admittedly found myself locked in an internal debate as to whether Midnight Tyrannosaurus is more appealing due to his hilariously nostalgic samples or as a result of his irreplaceable, unmistakable swampy sound design. The Florida producer just dropped Midnight Snacks Vol. 1, the first installment of a new series of giant-sized FREE albums. The first volume is loaded with 25 tracks, plenty of them never yet before released.
Right from the beginning, Midnight T delves into his sampling skills, setting the mood through several intro tracks that lay a thick atmosphere through minimal ambient layers backing these rather comedic, and also encroaching, samples. From there though, the release of wonky bass sounds comes full force, annihilating ear drums with a fresh dose of Midnight T’s sound design. Coming out just before the New Year, Midnight T is reminding not only just how great 2014 has been for producer, but also that there’s still plenty of originality thriving in the dubstep game.
