Album Review: KOAN Sound & Asa – Sanctuary EP [Dubstep//Drum & Bass]

KOAN Sound & Asa - Sanctuary EP

Regardless of your personal tastes and preferences, it is likely this release will worm its way into your favorites of 2013 as long as you’re at least a loose fan of just about anything electronic. I know many of us here have been infatuated with KOAN Sound since their early days. A peculiar, yet bass-driven, glitchy sound with melodic roots, while still maintaining a chaotic overtone, the UK duo has one of the most trademark and intriguing  sounds in the electronic world. Over the years, KOAN Sound has only progressed, pushing their career further and their music to all corners. But when we first heard the preview of their new Sanctuary EP with Asa, we were all truly mesmerized. The five-track EP showcases mainly drum & bass and dubstep, yet in a way never heard before- even if you are previously familiar with KOAN Sound. The composition is strong, live instrumentation dominates tracks, and each track is the result of a massive genre fusion combining lots of downtempo and glitch elements. Most of the release is pretty mellow, leading up to the final track, “Tetsuo’s Redemption”, on which the duo really lets loose. I urge you to drop what you’re doing and turn this EP on.
