It’s rather undeniable that Wick-It the Instigator has a truly unique perspective on music. His style frequently incorporates elements of dubstep, hip-hop, trap, and moombah, although he blends them into an unmistakable new creation that is, simply put, just the sound of Wick-It. I’ve always been a bit skeptical of mashups, but the Tennessee-based producer is one man I can always trust to find some serious enjoyment in, whether it’s an original track, a remix, or one of his many mashups.
The latest project from Wick-It is a funky, crunchy, rocking collision of two musical greats: The Beatles and the Beastie Boys. Yeah, take a second to process that, I said The Beatles and the Beastie Boys. This is certainly one, that if it wasn’t Wick-It, I’m honestly not sure how it would turn out (not to detract from the other mashup musicians out there who are also indeed truly talented), but as I said, he always pulls through. He’s released the project in the form of an mini-mix, coming in just under 11 minutes and featuring four original mashes. It features plenty of your Beatles favorites, and plenty of those stunning lines the Beastie Boys used to lay down. But what truly sets this apart, is that this is more than a just a group of mash-up.
If you’ve had the honor of catching Wick-It live, you’ve probably also had the pleasure of reveling in that moment where he busts out his guitar and rips up the stage in a tearing solo. That same aspect can be seen through all these new tracks, each of which also features additional layers of Wick-It’s own applied instrumentation. This might be a mix, and for now, it’s unclear whether these tracks will see individual release, but the mix does a good job of providing the songs in their entirety, so you can still enjoy them in their full glory. And hey, the mix is FREE, so there’s really nothing to complain about here.
